Substantive Editing
Reorganizing and clarifying the logical flow and structure of the overall work. This is also known as developmental/structural editing.
Stylistic & Copy Editing
Clarifying meaning; eliminating jargon and clichés; simplifying word usage. Correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
Proofreading
Checking over page proofs: text that has been copy edited and typeset. In other words, this is the final check before publishing.
